TEENAGER Tom Mann proved he had the X-Factor last night – by impressing Sharon Osborne in the hit TV talent show.
After appearing in front of 4,000 people in the Wembley Arena – as well as the infamous panel of judges – he is now through to the boot camp stage.
The 19-year-old football coach and devoted Saints fan impressed all four judges – including the previously doubting Sharon Obsborne –after ditching his guitar to sing a solo performance of How Ya Doing by Little Mix.
Speaking to the Daily Echo afterwards, Tom, from Chandler’s Ford, said: “It was relief, pure relief. I could have fluffed it and it would have been the end of my journey.”
Cheering him were his mum and dad, Steve and Jill, along with this two sisters, Sophie and Abbey and his brother Greg.
Also rooting for him, w e r e children h e coaches in football in the Hub in Bishopstoke Recreation Ground.
He said: “When I started singing the crowd reacted and that gave me a lot of confidence. But I was wary that I was shutting my eyes when I was singing and not connecting with the crowd and judges.
“I think Gary Barlow stopped the singing, saying he had heard enough.
But all the comments were positive.
Sharon was a lot more upbeat.”
Now Tom, a former pupil of Thornden School in Chandler’s Ford and student at Peter Symonds College in Winchester, will go forward to the boot camp where he will hone his skills ready to battle it out for the rest of the contest.
He said: “Whatever happens I will still get those amazing comments from the judges, because I am still learning.
“I am 19 and have never done anything as big as X-Factor. I would like to receive a little bit of approval and know where I am.”
Tom first picked up a guitar aged 10 and has been performing ever since.
