Totton mum and daughter shave heads for Southampton hospital appeal
IT was a case of hair today, gone tomorrow when a mother and daughter teamed up for a fundraising challenge.
Liz, 37, who is the centre’s manager, organised the head shaving in memory of her father David Trist who died in December last year after a six-year battle with multiple myeloma.
She wanted to support the Daily Echo-backed appeal, which has raised £1.76m to build a specialist state-of-the-art day unit for other blood cancer patients being treated at Southampton General Hospital.
As previously reported, the new unit opened to its first patients last week as the final pennies are collected and counted after more than four years of fundraising by medics, patients and Daily Echo readers.
Nearly 30 friends, family and colleagues gathered to watch them lop off their locks with the hair being donated to create wigs for cancer patients.
Liz, from Richmond Close, Calmore, said: “We are very grateful to everyone who donated.
“It feels very strange but I know my hair will grow back, but it will not bring my dad back.”
