Hampshire gamer could become full-time Nissan racer
A HAMPSHIRE man’s virtual driving skills could see him swapping his PlayStation controller to become a full-time racer for Nissan.
Mark Ridout emerged as one of the UK’s six fastest competitors of the Gran Turismo racing game, at the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy 2013 UK National Final held at Silverstone.
It means that 21-year-old Mark is in with a chance of taking part in a full season’s racing in a 500bhp GT-R Nismo GT3 race car.
He was chosen out of an entry list of more than 765,000 gamers from around Europe.
The list was whittled down to just 24 UK qualifiers, who completed a series of challenges in the virtual versions of the Nissan GT-R and 370Z.
The second day of competition saw each contender take part in other important challenges including fitness tests, media interviews and driving skills tests in a Nissan Juke Nismo.
The top six will compete to decide who will progress to the European final, where they will have to face 18 competitors from the continent.
Mark, from New Milton, said: “I’m delighted to get through to Race Camp at the fourth year of trying. I’ve been getting closer each year so to get to that next stage is brilliant.”
