ACTRESS Vanessa Redgrave is appearing in a one-night show in Hampshire to boost the coffers of a charity helping destitute asylum seekers.

Miss Redgrave will be in conversation with journalist Jenny Cuffe at St Swithun’s School in Winchester on Sunday, October 6, starting at 4pm.

Hailed as “the greatest actress of our time,” she will talk about her long and successful career.

Motivated by a lifelong passion against injustice, the actress has never shied away from controversy.

All the profits from the show will go to local charity, Southampton and Winchester Visitors’ Group (SWVG), which helps homeless refugees.

The actress, who is performing in Mark Rylance’s production of Much Ado About Nothing at The Old Vic In London, was asked to speak at the fundraising event by Shirley Firth, mother of actor Colin Firth, and a founder member of SWVG.

Ms Cuffe, who is a SWVG volunteer and BBC reporter, said: “There is a huge contrast between Vanessa Redgrave’s glittering career and her support for people like those camped at Dale Farm.

“The show should be great fun.”

Tickets can be bought from Winchester Theatre Royal box office 01962 840440.
