Cyclists and walkers wanted to help save historic churches
2:23pm Friday 13th September 2013 in News
ORGANISERS of Hampshire Ride and Stride are calling on cyclists and walkers to help raise £50,000 to preserve the region’s historic churches.
The sponsored walk and cycle tomorrow is open to all, and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
As a result, Hampshire and the Islands Historic Churches Trust has set a bumper target.
People taking part are sponsored to visit as many churches as they wish and can plan their own route or follow suggested routes on the trust website.
Churches helped last year include St Denys Church, which received £7,500 for work on its roof and windows and St Mary’s in Copythorne which won £6,500 towards repairs.
Everyone who takes part can keep half their sponsorship for their own church.
