Brian Proctor may be staying in Hampshire guesthouse, police believe
DETECTIVES searching for a missing man have renewed an urgent appeal to guesthouse and hotels in the Hampshire to help trace him.
Brian Proctor left his family home in Sutton Close, Ryde on the Isle of Wight at 10pm on Friday. Police believe he may harm himself.
Officers and the HM Coastguard launched a major search for the 51-year-old yesterday morning when his wife raised the alarm after he failed to return home.
Now police believe he is on the mainland after discovering CCTV footage which shows him leaving on the Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferry at 1.40am on Saturday.
He has left his car and phone at home but it is believed he has enough money to last him a couple of days.
Officers are checking hotels and bed and breakfasts in the area.
Detective Inspector John Geden said: “We are genuinely concerned that Brian may wish to harm himself and we are doing everything we can to find him and ensure he is safe.”
“Our message to hotel and B&B owners in Portsmouth and surrounding areas is please check your guestlists and if you have a lone man in his 50s who checked in and recognise his picture, please call us immediately.”
He also urged members of the public to contact the force immediately if they spot him and he added: “Our message to Brian if he is reading this or hears our appeal is please make contact.
“Your wife is beside herself with worry and we just want to make sure you are safe.
“We will do everything we can to help you.”
Brian is described as being 6ft 1ins tall and balding with short grey hair at the sides and he has characteristic large ears.
He was wearing a black t-shirt with white writing on it, blue jeans and black shoes.
Anyone who sees him or knows his whereabouts should contact DI Geden on 101.
