Fryern Schools in Chandler's Ford celebrate 50 years since their foundation
3:00pm Monday 16th September 2013 in News
CELEBRATIONS were in full flow at the Fryern Schools in Chandler’s Ford to mark the 50th anniversary of their foundation.
Specially invited guests including former pupils and staff were at the infant and junior schools in Oakmount Road to mark the occasion.
Entertainment was provided by current pupils who performed a dance display before guests were invited for an afternoon tea and refreshments.
A tour of the grounds was then given which took in a display of pictures and memories of the school from when it opened in 1963.
As previously reported in the Daily Echo, school leaders put out an appeal earlier this year to help trace the whereabouts of two time capsules that were buried on the school site – one when it opened and one to mark its silver jubilee year in 1988 – as over time their exact location had been lost.
But despite the plea no firm location could be identified so the celebrations did not include a ceremony to dig them up as initially planned.
