Battle of Britain heroes honoured in Eastleigh church service
12:00pm Monday 16th September 2013 in News
BATTLE of Britain heroes were remembered at a church service.
Thousands of pilots died defending their country from the Luftwaffe, which tried to destroy RAF bases as a prelude to invasion.
The Battle of Britain took place in the summer and autumn of 1940, with many of the airmen based in the south.
Civic leaders from the two communities joined the service at St Mark’s Church in Eastleigh.
The moving tribute was organised by the Royal Air Forces Association, a charity that supports pilots and their families.
