Remove bus shelters to punish the vandals
6:38pm Monday 16th September 2013 in News
MANY letters have been written on the subject of the apparent poor bus service we have here in Southampton and I admit that I have personally written letters to the management of First Bus with complaints on at least two occasions.
However, that said, I would like to point out another side of what this company (and Blue Line) have to cope with.
Recently in Lordshill Way the company installed brand new bus shelters with seats and Perspex windows at what must have been quite a considerable cost.
Up until now I considered, without being in any way snobbish about it, there to be a safe side and a not-so-safe side to this road where vandalism is concerned, (the south side having already suffered vandalism in the past), the north side where I live considered the safe side.
This however has not proved to be the case at all, these new shelters have now been attacked by vandals and the windows smashed which will cost the bus company a considerable sum to replace.
In my view, if I were the management of the company I would remove these shelters completely and let the general public stand in all weathers, this may seem a rather harsh decision to make everyone suffer for the few but these vandals are obviously someone’s child (for children they are whatever their age), and that way you will know without doubt that you have punished the culprits also.
L. A. O’BEE, Lordswood.
