Lower Upham blaze inquiry 'to take weeks'
10:20am Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
AN investigation into the cause of a blaze that destroyed a Hampshire home is likely to take weeks.
The fire destroyed a two-storey bungalow in Winchester Road, Lower Upham, on Monday morning.
There had been fears that a family-of-three were inside the property and firefighters made frantic efforts to find any survivors.
However, enquiries established that the parents were on holiday and the son at work and no-one was inside.
Neighbours described how black smoke billowed into the air and flames could be seen on the roof and at one point ten fire engines were on the scene.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the condition of the building can play a factor in the length of an investigation.
Police said on Monday that though the investigation is ongoing there was nothing yet to suggest it was suspicious.
