2:50pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
GUNFIRE will ring out from a Hampshire venue.
Fort Nelson, on Portsdown Hill near Fareham, will be holding a free gun firing demonstration for a 13-inch Land Service Mortar on Sunday.
Uniformed gunners from the Portsdown Artillery Volunteers will fire the historic gun at 11.30am, 1pm and 3pm at the Victorian fort, home to the national collection of artillery.
The demonstration will be followed by a chance for visitors to inspect the mortar, and to ask the volunteer gunners for more information, and questions.
The gun is able to send a 200lb round to a maximum range of up to one-and-a-half miles.
Museum admission and parking are free.
