Second album launch for sensation Birdy
HAMPSHIRE teenage singing sensation Birdy has released her second album today.
The 17-year-old from Lymington whose real name is Jasmine Van den Bogaerde has captivated people across the world since she released her self-titled album in 2011.
Her debut album was a collection of piano-based covers and sold almost 1.3 million copies worldwide and the lead single, her take on Bon Iver’s Skinny Love gave her a Top 20 hit aged just 14.
Entitled Fire Within her second album features all original material with tracks Birdy has written herself.
The teenager, who is the daughter of a concert pianist and great niece of actor Dirk Bogarde, has spent months working with the biggest names in the music business in studios from London to Los Angeles.
Birdy told the Daily Echo: “The album is all my own songs so it’s very exciting. For me it’s more personal and emotive and it’s an eclectic mix of styles.
“But I’m kind of nervous. I feel like I’m starting again a little bit but writing my own songs is what I’ve wanted to do for such a long time so I’m really happy. I just hope people like my own material.”
Birdy studied for her GCSEs at Priestlands School but said she has been forced to abandon her A-Levels in art and French at Brockenhurst College due to her busy schedule.
Birdy’s career exploded after she was discovered by winning talent show Open Mic UK in 2008 aged just 12.
