Controversial solar farm given go ahead

Plans for a controversial solar farm have been given the go ahead.
German firm Vogt Solar want to install 3,649 solar panels at a site near Newgate Lane in Fareham.
It will produce 17 kilowatts of energy- enough to power 5,200 homes.
Despite withdrawing its previous plans when it understood that they would be refused earlier this year, the company returned with a proposal that halved the land being used from 58 hectares to 27 hectares.
And this time officers recommended it get the go-ahead.
Councillors on Fareham Borough Council's planning committee debated the decision at length but did approve it by six votes to two.
Concerns raised about the scheme included its proximity to residents, the effect on footpaths being screened, the impact on one of the routes for a potential Stubbington bypass which goes through the land and the loss of open countryside.
