Nobel Prize winner Sir Tim Hunt visits Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh
YOUNG scientists were encouraged to make fun discoveries of their own when a Nobel Prize winner dropped into a Hampshire college.
Eminent biochemist Sir Tim Hunt gave the 2013 Aspire Science Lecture at Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh, telling gifted and talented students from surrounding secondary schools: “The most important and interesting things you do [as a scientist] are when you don’t know where you are going.
“It’s then that you make discoveries – and discovery is the whole point of science.”
Earlier, Dr Hunt, whose research led to the further understanding of cancer, officially opened the Nobel Building, home to the psychology, maths and computer science departments.
