DIGNITARIES donned hard hats and hi-vis vests to see work officially start on a major Basingstoke development.
Network Rail started construction today of their new state-of-the-art signalling and training centre.
The multi-million pound hub on Gresley Road triangle, north of Basing View, was given the green light by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in July, and will create up to 500 jobs.
Basingstoke MP Maria Miller, and borough council deputy leader Councillor Ranil Jayawardena attended the ground-breaking ceremony at the site.
Mrs Miller said: “I very much welcome the significant investment in Basingstoke by Network Rail.
"It is great to see the start of building of this state-of-the-art signalling and training centre. This development will bring huge benefits for Basingstoke with new jobs for local people, new parking facilities and a footbridge.”
