Tudor tales in Southampton
UNLOCK the Tudor magic of Southampton tomorrow as the Meet the Ancestors event celebrates the city’s heritage.
Visitors can enjoy walks, talks and demonstrations throughout the day as well as the opportunity to visit God’s House Tower and other venues not usually open to the public such as St Julien’s Chapel in Winkle Street. The celebrations mark the culmination of a two-year programme designed to raise the profile of Southampton’s extensive archive records from the 15th and 16th centuries.
History will be brought to life by members of the Sarah Siddons Fan Club Theatre taking on the roles of the likes of the Warden of God’s House Tower and Huguenot refugees who came to Southampton to escape religious persecution.
Among the speakers on the day will be historical novelist and non-fiction author Sarah Morris who will be in full 1530s costume as she speaks about Henry V111 and Anne Boleyn’s visit to Hampshire in 1535.
