Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton evacuated after reports of smoke
PEOPLE staying at a Southampton hotel were evacuated for more than an hour after smoke was spotted coming from one of the rooms.
Crews from St Mary's, Hightown and Redbridge fire stations were called to the Grand Harbour Hotel just before 5pm yesterday.
Part of the West Quay Road hotel was cordoned off as firefighters located the source of smoke.
Around 100 guests were forced to wait outside or at the Holiday Inn opposite as fire crews investigated.
People trying to check in were also told they were not allowed in.
One guest was waiting to collect their luggage to catch a flight.
There was a large presence of fire engines on site including an incident command unit. An ambulance was also caused as a precaution.
A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called after smoke triggered the alarms.
Firefighters used thermal imagine cameras to locate the source, which has not been revealed.
Crews left the scene at around 6.45pm.
The hotel declined to comment.
