Scarecrows take over!
3:00pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
SOME members of the congregation attending harvest evensong didn’t seem to want to join in with the hymns and prayers.
That’s not surprising as they were the leftover entries from the scarecrow festival at St John the Baptist’s, North Baddesley.
Scarecrows sat in the pews and a few were propped up in the porch to greet worshippers arriving for the service.
Organiser Sally Kerson said that the event had drawn a bumper crop of 30 entries and is now firmly established on the church calendar as part of the harvest festival celebrations, which take place on the last weekend of September.
The winner in the adult section was Bert the Recycling Gardener, made by the Bradbury family from Rownhams Lane, while Jokey the Smurf, by Year 6 pupils from North Baddesley Junior School, was the children’s winner.
