SOLAR PANELS have won Hampshire’s ambulance service a top award.
South Centre Ambulance Service won the prize for Efficiency in Transport and Logistics at the Health Service Journal Efficiency Awards.
They were recognised for putting solar panels on 36 Rapid Response Vehicles which powered the secondary battery for all emergency equipment inside.
Phil Pimlott, from SCAS, said: “We are really pleased to have won this prestigious award which celebrates our work in energy efficiency which has environmental benefits.
“Adding them to our vehicles will mean that we continue to reduce our carbon footprint and make a real difference to our patients and the environment for the future.”
They took the initiative to help reduce fuel costs, battery replacements costs and the trust’s impact on the environment, as the panels prevent the need for the vehicles to keep returning to base to charge up the vehicle batteries.
