Don't Miss the Port Anniversary Party
THERE are still tickets available for a massive party to celebrate a major milestone in the life of the Port of Southampton.
As part of the celebrations around the 175th anniversary of the port on October 12, the port is hosting a concert for 1,300 people in the QEII Terminal.
Headlined by TV entertainer Shane Richie, the spectacular event will feature an array of exciting local and national talent.
Tickets are £10, with all the proceeds going to the Port of Southampton’s charity for the year, the Hampshire-based Joe Glover Trust, which works with children suffering from cancer.
Best known for his role as Alfie Moon in EastEnders, Shane Richie is also a musician and will entertain the crowd with his band performing a range of popular hits.
Also on the bill are a group of the original West End performers of smash-hit musical Les Miserables, with some of the most popular songs from the show.
Other highlights of the two and a half hour show include Stringfever, the world’s first “genetically modified string quartet”, who will do a comedy run through of 175 years of music to mark the port’s anniversary.
Talented comedian, actor, singer and pianist Kev Orkian will showcase the talent that has seen him perform in numerous West End musicals, including Fame, Boogie Nights and Happy Days.
Local talent is also given a platform to shine, with Jack White’s Soul Choir and street-dance specialists the Dude Crew also on the bill.
The audience will also be treated to a display of film and pictures from the port’s glorious 175-year history and one lucky guest will win a luxury cruise.
Southampton port director Doug Morrison said: “The port is at the heart of the city and the people of Southampton have always been the secret to our success. So when it came to celebrating our 175th anniversary, we were determined to invite local people into the port to celebrate with us.
“We have assembled a spectacular night of entertainment that will be not only a chance to have fun together but to celebrate the unique relationship between port and city.”
