Stong winds delay Clipper yachts arrival in Brazil
9:56am Sunday 6th October 2013 in News
STRONG HEAD winds has delayed the arrival of the Clipper Race fleet into Rio de Janeiro overnight.
The first of the yachts had been expected to celebrate the completion of the first leg of the world's longest race yesterday evening but due to the forces of Mother Nature, the leaders are still yet to dock in Marina de Gloria.
It still promises to be a tight finish though, with PSP Logistics, sponsors of the Southampton Boat Show, still managing to stay in the lead ahead of Qingdao, skippered by Gosport's Gareth Glover in second and Jamaica All Right, led by Titchfield's Pete Stirling in third.
They are expected to cross the finish line this morning.
