War horse memorial funds mount
1:20pm Monday 7th October 2013 in News
FUNDS to build a Romsey memorial to horses killed in the Great War are mounting up.
The latest fundraiser, a garden fete, for a life-size statue of a horse and soldier in the town’s war memorial park netted about £800 for the £55,000 project which so far has around £10,000 in the pot.
Romsey played a significant part in the First World War effort sending more than 100,000 horses and mules on to the frontline after they were trained for battle at the Romsey Remount Camp on Pauncefoot Hill.
Anyone who would like to make a donation to the appeal is asked to send a cheque made payable to the Horse Fund, c/o The Town Clerk, Romsey Town Hall, Market Place, Romsey, SO51 8YZ.
