Bitterne Park School teachers on big run for Piam Brown Children’s Ward
Bitterne Park School staff will be taking part in the Great South Run to raise money for Piam Brown Children’s Ward
THEY will be swapping books for running shoes.
The teachers chose the ward after witnessing the support received by a number of their pupils, and six-year-old Jessica Vardy while battling cancer.
Jessica, the daughter of the school’s head of art, Dan Vardy, has been receiving treatment for leukaemia, or cancer of the blood, and has to spend up to five weeks at a time on the ward.
Dan and Jessica’s mum, Dawn Vardy, will be joining head teacher Susan Trigger and other staff from the school for the ten-mile run on October 27.
The teachers hope to raise £10,000, some of which will also go towards purchasing items for the ward including beds for parents staying overnight, toys and resources for the education room.
