Northam Traincare open day
3:10pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
IT is the huge depot serving as an engine room for the maintenance and smooth running of scores of trains across the south.
The South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance is marking the tenth anniversary of its partnership by hosting an open day at the Radcliffe Road complex on Saturday.
The free Whistle Stop Tour, is held in partnership with Siemens, and is a chance for people to learn more about the technology and maintenance of the partnership’s 172-strong fleet of Siemens Desiro units.
Activities include manning the controls in the driver’s cab and walking underneath an engine to watch the wheels being turned.
There will also be a steam train ride, cake sale and raffle and technicians will outline major improvements to kit out the fleet with CCTV and WiFi.
Doors open from 10am to 5pm, with last entry at 4pm.
All funds will go to the southeast branch of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association, a charity close to the hearts of staff after a depot colleague was diagnosed with the degenerative disease earlier this year.
See Siemens.co.uk/whistlestoptour or search Whistle Stop Tour on Facebook for more details.
