Golf day raises £8,000 for St Michael's Hospice
MORE than £8,000 was raised at an annual golf tournament to raise money for a Basingstoke hospice.
A total of 88 amateur golfers took part in the event held at Sherfield Oaks Golf Club, in Sherfield-on-Loddon.
Playing in 22 teams of four, the golfers teed off at around 10am and played several hours of golf before the winners were announced.
She said: “It was a great success with teams seemingly more competitive than ever, while remembering that the day was to raise money to support patients and their families affected by life-limiting illnesses.
“Our thanks go to everyone who took part, our corporate sponsors, the golf club, whose generosity helped to make the day more profitable, and to their staff for their support and service on the day.”
The Basil de Ferranti trophy was won by ‘The Odd Balls’ team, captained by Ian Hawkins.
Among those competing in the charity event were individuals and their families and friends who have been personally affected by the work done at the hospice, as well as supporting teams from local companies.
Teams from AXA Wealth, Barclays and Virgin Media were among the competitors.
The day itself raised more than £4,000 and match funding from Basepoint Business Centre and Barclays saw the total more than doubled.
