Hundreds visit Whitchurch Silk Mill for Country Show
HUNDREDS of people paid a visit to an historic mill for a new event to help promote the attraction.
The first Whitchurch Country Show was held in the grounds of Whitchurch Silk Mill, in Winchester Street.
Various stalls selling produce were set up for visitors to browse and there were games and activities to amuse the younger audience, including cup cake decorating.
Around 1,100 people attended the event, and it is hoped it will be held again in the future.
Sue Tapliss, manager of Whitchurch Mill, said: “There was something for all the family. We definitely hope it will become an annual event. It really put the mill at the heart of the community again.
“One of the most touching pieces of feedback that we had was that a member of the community said that for many years she had seen the mill decline and this event put it back at the heart of the community where it deserves to be. We hope we are a treasure of Whitchurch.”
Visitors paid £1 to enter the event, helping to raise £2,300 for the mill which will be used to improve the facilities and preserve the looms.
