Teen tried to break into house while woman was in shower, court told
A TEENAGER tried to get into a Hampshire home while a woman was having a shower, a court heard.
Rhys Long was seen trying to break in by the woman who had come downstairs wrapped in a towel to investigate the disturbance, the court was told.
The 18-year-old was first seen by neighbours trying to prise open the patio doors with a screwdriver at a property in David Newberry Drive, Lee-on-the-Solent, and called the police, the court heard.
The woman’s husband had already left for work before the incident, at 8am on August 27, and the woman, seeing someone at the back door went back upstairs to get dressed then came down to challenge Long, but was unable to get out as he had damaged the door.
Long, of Bracken Close, Lee-on-the-Solent, admitted attempted burglary.
Daniel Reilly, in mitigation, said Long had been using drugs since the age of 12 and that this was believed to be the reason behind the offence.
But he said Long had not had drugs since being in custody and now believed he could turn his life around.
Long was given an 18-month community order with 18 months supervision and a nine-month drug rehabilitation requirement.
