Amanda Holden: 'I hated myself for cheating on Les'
9:50am Monday 14th October 2013 in News
HAMPSHIRE’S Britain’s Got Talent star Amanda Holden has revealed her regret about cheating on TV star husband Les Dennis.
Amanda, who grew up in Bishop’s Waltham, says she hated herself for being unfaithful with actor Neil Morrissey.
Writing in her autobiography No Holding Back – My Story, which comes out later this month, the 42-year-old tells of her difficult ten-year relationship with Les who she describes as “grumpy”.
Amanda reveals how Les wooed her with “old-fashioned courting” but once they married they began to row repeatedly.
She recalls several bust-ups, including how a group of men had to rescue her when Les tried to physically stop her leaving a London restaurant after he had had lost his temper, kicked her under the table and sworn at her.
Later she met Men Behaving Badly star Neil when they worked together on comedy drama Happy Birthday Shakespeare and they quickly began an affair.
Amanda writes that she lay awake at night feeling how wrong it was and how she wanted it to stop.
Despite trying to give their marriage another go, Amanda and Les separated.
The divorce shattered her, even though she knew it was inevitable, she says.
Amanda, who has actively campaigned against plans for a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Bishop’s Waltham, has previously told how writing the autobiography has helped her overcome her miscarriage heartbreak.
She described how reliving the agony of losing a baby finally allowed her to let go of the crippling grief she lived with for many years.
She was left heartbroken when she lost a baby boy seven months into her pregnancy in 2011 – less than a year after suffering a miscarriage at four months.
