Livestock unharmed in Botley farm blaze
11:00am Monday 14th October 2013 in News
FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze in a piggery at a farm.
Crews were called to a farm in Brook Lane, Botley, on Friday where they spent three hours putting the fire out.
The blaze involved a disused piggery made of wood and tin, but outside at the back were up to 30 chickens in a pen.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue’s animal rescue specialist was called in but the chickens did not have to be moved and they were not harmed.
No other animals were involved and no one was hurt.
Three fire engines attended, one from Botley and two from Hightown, after the alarm was raised at around 6am.
The cause of the fire is not known but it is being treated as suspicious.
