Oaklands swimming pool will reopen with 25-year lease

PLANS to reopen a swimming pool have been passed by civic chiefs.
Oaklands Pool could reopen next September after Southampton City Council’s Cabinet approved a plan to rescue it.
The pool has been shut since last May, when it closed for repairs, and there were fears it would remain shut.
But the Cabinet has now approved spending £1.7 million on repair work. It will be run by a new community group, including a number of people with experience of running pools and who will sign a 25-year lease to manage the community facility.
Building work is set for completion by January 2015.
