Marwell's Go! Rhino choir hoping to encourage bidders
IT IS all about the money, money, money that can be raised by Southampton’s rhinos.
With just a matter of weeks before the magnificent sculptures go under the hammer for charity, the crash of rhinos are now the stars of a new music video to lure in potential bidders.
Set to Jessie J’s hit Price Tag, the Marwell Choir have put the Go! Rhinos to music, calling on those with a love for the endangered creatures to get to the auction on October 30.
It took the Marwell team, who all took part in their spare time, half a day to film the video around the zoo, showcasing all the sculptures to lyrics written by Helen Rees, PA to the chief executive.
A music graduate with experience with bands, it took Helen just a couple of hours to write, before handing it over to the choir for their performance.
The lyrics include the lines: “It’s easy to see just why, why Southampton was so obsessed, rhinos can bring happiness”
and features many of the rhinos by name that could be seen in Southampton’s streets and parks during the summer, including the Daily Echo’s mini rhino, #ampersand.
Within just a few hours of being online the video had already reached 800 hits and it is hoped that it will boost the bids at the auction, which is raising money for three charities, Marwell’s conservation work, the Rose Road Association and Wessex Heartbeat’s HIGH 5 Appeal.
Kirstie Mathieson, Go! Rhinos project manager, said: “When Marwell Choir approached me about this I thought it was a brilliant and bonkers idea and the end result was even better than I could have dreamed of.
“It was fantastic fun creating this and staff gave up their own precious time to rehearse and star in the music video.
“I would like to thank them all for getting behind this project and spreading the Go! Rhinos love.
Not long until the Go! Rhinos auction, so get your bids in quick.”
If you are unable to make the event at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton, in person, do not worry, bidders can register as a telephone bidder or place a proxy bid.
Tickets are £15. To apply for tickets and register as a bidder call Kirstie on 01962 777 931.
