Southampton General Hospital nurses set for £1,000 Great South Run challenge
NURSES determined to make life better for the relatives of seriously ill stroke patients are ready to go on the run.
The quartet from the acute stroke unit at Southampton General Hospital have set themselves a mission of raising more than £1,000 to buy two specialist reclining chairs for relatives of very sick patients who want to stay the night beside their loved one.
So in a bid to achieve their aim, they will be taking on the Great South Run on October 27, a fast and flat ten-mile course that promises to put them through their paces.
Beth Farrow, who is running with Chris Sanders, Ryan Bird and Trevor Smith, said: “Currently when we have a very sick patient the relatives are welcome to stay over but our facilities are not great and they end up sleeping in armchairs. In an already very upsetting, difficult and stressful situation, this is obviously not ideal.”
