Clear out your ditches
1:00pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in News
HIGHWAY bosses are calling on residents across Hampshire to clear out their ditches in a bid to prevent flooding this winter.
Landowners have a vital role to play in helping to reduce the money Hampshire spends on clearance work each year.
Currently more than £2 million is spent annually on maintaining more than 559 miles of road drains and 200,000 gullies.
Hampshire’s Cabinet spokesman for economy, transport and environ-ment, Councillor Seán Woodward, said: “There is a lot that we can do to reduce the impact on our neighbourhoods. I am asking local residents if they can regularly check ditches and water-courses on their own land to make sure they are clear of debris.”
