MORE than 300 soldiers of 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (1RRF) will mark their return home from Afghanistan by holding an operational medals parade at Tidworth Camp this morning.
The First Fusiliers battlegroup has now completed its six-month deployment to Nahr-e Saraj District in central Helmand where its role has been to support the transition of security responsibility from ISAF to Afghan National Security Forces.
The battalion, led by Lt Col John Swift, also deployed a strong company group equipped with the specially modified Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
They were based separately in Lashkar Gah Durai Patrol Base and conducted a series of manoeuvre operations aimed at disrupting the insurgents in their own backyard.
This morning’s events will see a parade which will march on to the square where personnel will be presented with operational service medals by the Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier David Paterson, and Commander 1 Mechanised Brigade, Brigadier Rupert Jones – son of Falkland’s VC hero Col H Jones.
The Corps of Drums of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will provide music throughout the parade.
Following the presentation of operational service medals, there will be a “kids medals parade”
