Bridge repairs set to close lane
11:00am Wednesday 30th October 2013 in News
HAMPSHIRE County Council says it will be starting reconstruction works on the A338 Redhouse Bridge north of Parkhouse roundabout, between Cholderton and Shipton Bellinger, on 11 November for 15 weeks.
During the works one lane will be shut and traffic will be controlled with a temporary four-way traffic lights system at the Parkhouse roundabout.
A council spokeswoman said: “Essential work is being undertaken to the concrete deck of the bridge, to ensure the long term life of the bridge structure.
“Currently the existing concrete bridge deck requires replacement to comply with current highway load carrying capacity.
“The removal of the existing concrete deck and the reconstruction of the new one will be carried out in two phases in order to keep traffic flow.
“Although some disruption will be inevitable, every effort will be made to reduce the impact on local residents and businesses.
“A safe route outside the bridge for pedestrians, and access to all nearby properties and businesses will be maintained at all times.”
The works will cost around £202,000 to complete and will be undertaken by Mildern Construction Ltd on behalf of Hampshire County Council.
