Storm warning postpones New Forest Walking Festival
2:43pm Friday 25th October 2013 in News
PART of the first-ever New Forest Walking Festival has been postponed after a storm warning.
Two walks due to have taken place at Ashurst and Keyhaven Marshes on Monday have both been moved to Thursday amid fears that Hampshire is in for a battering.
It follows an amber alert issued by the Met Office, which is studying an area of low pressure sweeping in from the Atlantic.
Experts say Hampshire is likely to be hit by gusts of more than 80mph, which could result in trees being uprooted and branches crashing to the ground. There are also fears that heavy rain could cause flooding.
Organised by the New Forest National Park Authority (NPA), the festival starts tomorrow and finishes 11 walks later on November 2.
NPA chiefs say two walks due to take place in the Brockenhurst area tomorrow will go ahead as planned.
