Bananarama, Go West, Billy Ocean and Heaven 17, among groups to star in city concert
A HOST of 80s pop stars are getting ready to rock Southampton.
Retro music will blast out of Southampton Common next summer as Billy Ocean and Bananarama appear at Let’s Rock Southampton.
The Grammy Award winning R ‘n’ B star and the Venus girl band head up a line-up which also includes other 80s favourites like Howard Jones, ABC, Go West and Nick Heyward.
Organisers are hoping up to 2,000 revellers will snap up tickets, which go on sale on Friday.
Let’s Rock Southampton, which is taking place in July, will be the first live music event at the Common since 2006, when UB40 and Jools Holland took to the stage.
Let’s Rock The leafy surroundings of the Common were previously used for the Power in the Park concerts, which ran for ten years from the early 1990s and attracted up to 80,000 fans each year.
Members of Take That and the Spice Girls appeared alongside Steps and the city’s own Craig David at the height of his fame.
Audiences at next year’s family-friendly festival will be treated to the sounds of The Real Thing, Heaven 17, Altered Images, Brother Beyond, Jaki Graham and Then Jerico.
After five years of 80s fun at Let’s Rock events in Cookham, Berkshire and Bristol, organisers are turning their attentions to Hampshire in 2014.
They promise lots of attractions to keep children happy at the all-day event, as well as the extensive music programme.
Eighties music lovers can dance to the sounds of hits including Love In The First Degree, Caribbean Queen, King of Wishful Thinking, Poison Arrow and The Harder I Try.
The Bigtopmania circus, a funfair including water rides and soft play areas, and children’s TV entertainers, will also feature at the event.
