Blue Cross animal shelter in plea to home Zena the black cat

THEY are the typical companion of witches on broomsticks.
Now, with Hallowe’en just around the corner, an animal charity is hoping its own black moggie will be someone’s perfect companion.
Zena is one of the many black cats that come into the Southampton Blue Cross rehoming centre that struggle to find new homes because they are often overlooked by potential owners.
The 18-month-old has had a tough past.
She first came to Blue Cross back in July when she was pregnant, despite already having three three-month-old kittens.
We quickly found homes for Zena’s first litter and she went to stay in a foster home while she had her second litter of six kittens.
After they had all grown up and been rehomed, it was Zena’s turn to find a family of her own but, despite being advertised for several weeks, no one has come forward yet to take her in.
Laura Boyle, Blue Cross rehoming supervisor, says: “Blue Cross always has lots of black cats looking for loving families and they often take longer to rehome – we don’t know if this is because people think they’re unlucky, or not as friendly as other cats.
“But we really hope that Zena will bewitch a new family this Hallowe’en and find herself in the loving home that she deserves soon.”
Staff describe Zena as a very friendly cat, who loves attention and enjoys playing with toys.
If you can give Zena a home, call the Blue Cross Southampton on 0300 777 1530 or log on to bluecross.org.uk.
