Tree crashes into house in Oakwood Drive in Southampton
A PEACEFUL neighbourhood was shattered after a tree crashed into two houses.
The tree smashed windows and damaged part of the roof at the front of one of the properties.
The other house suffered slight damage but much of the front garden is impassable.
Large trees are dotted around the estate. The strong winds have snapped off small branches, which are scattered around the area.
Oakwood Drive resident Gary Wade, 42, was woken by his son Ben, 11, after he heard an “almighty crash”.
He said: “It's worrying when the weather gets like this. We spent £500 to cut the trees back earlier this year.
“Anything could have happened last night.
“It was at its worst at around 5.30am. I looked out into the garden and I could see our trampoline trembling around.”
Neighbour Cindy Foad, said: “It's a surprise to see it. It could happen to anybody.
“The trees have always been our worry, and I imagine the occupants are devastated.”
Colin Penny, also of Oakwood Drive, said: “I was a lot of crashing and banging. The trees were banging on the side of our house.
“It is a worry as we have so many trees in front of us. My youngest daughter is in the front bedroom and you worry about her when the weather is this bad.”
