Residents near nightclub call on council for more CCTV
1:30pm Monday 28th October 2013 in News
RESIDENTS living near a soon-to-open Hampshire nightclub are calling for an additional CCTV camera to prevent problems at a venue.
The former Porthouse in Upper Brook Street, Winchester, is set to reopen imminently as VODKA Bar.
Michael Coker-Davies, chairman of Parchment Brooks Residents’ Association, said: “We have asked for a CCTV camera in Upper Brook Street and the council has shied away on cost grounds.
“This is going to be the biggest and busiest night club in the city in an inappropriate location because we have a lot of elderly and families here.
“The owners said they would have extra staff to prevent problems, but they have no influence on what happens up the street.”
A spokesman for the city council said a camera was already in place which covers the nightclub and some of the surrounding area. He added: “It is unlikely that the council would install another unless specific incidents required it.”
