Volunteers honoured by Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane
VOLUNTEERS who dedicate their spare time to giving something back to the community were recognised for their efforts at a special ceremony.
Councillor Dan Putty, Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, presented certificates to 32 volunteers in appreciation of their support for local charities and voluntary groups in the borough.
The ceremony, organised by Basingstoke Voluntary Services, included a buffet for the volunteers, sponsored by Sainsbury’s.
Sarah Robinson, operation manager of volunteering at BVS, said: “This year, we have seen volunteers aged from 14 up to people in their 70s and 80s receiving a thank-you from the organisations they volunteer for. Some people have given 40 years of their lives to a particular cause.
“We are delighted to help charities and voluntary groups to recognise the achievements of their volunteers in this way, and to work in partnership with Sainsbury’s, which donated a generous celebratory buffet in recognition of the importance of volunteering to the local community.”
