A pumpkin party!
9:00am Tuesday 5th November 2013 in News
FAMILIES pulled on their wellies and flocked to Riverford on Saturday for a day of seasonal organic fun at its annual Pumpkin Day.
The weather remained mostly onside as the Upper Norton Farm at Sutton Scotney opened its gates to the public.
A variety of stalls were offering a taste of local organic produce and there was also cookery demos, chilli stringing, farm walks, woodland workshops and ferret racing.
A whole host of children’s activities included apple pressing, worm digging, pumpkin carving, face painting and vegetable games.
“Our Pumpkin Day is a wonderful way to celebrate the arrival of autumn and all the fantastic food that it brings,”
said Guy Watson, the founding farmer of Riverford.
“It’s a free day out with loads for people to enjoy.”
Tony Lee of Riverford on Upper Norton Farm said: “We had a record 1,500 visitors on our Pumpkin Day.
“It’s been wonderful to see so many Hampshire families enjoying the farm and getting a real hands on feel and taste for what we grow here.
“We are about more than veg though; we’re essentially a farm shop that delivers to your door.”
