CHILDREN at Portway Junior School welcomed Olympic athlete Jon Boyton to help kick off the school’s health week.
Jon’s visit to the school included an opportunity for children to take part in a sponsored circuit race.
The money raised will go towards the school developing its PE curriculum.
After the sponsored event, Jon talked with his audience about how he became a 15- time national champion sprint kayaker.
He told the pupils about how he had been poor at sport when he was at school, but took time to find the sport he enjoyed and combined this with lots of practice and improving his resilience to get him to the position he is in today.
He talked about the importance of training and a good diet and his passion to be the best he can be at his sport.
The rest of the week saw PCSOs leading sessions about cyber safety, Sainsbury’s providing sessions about good food and challenged pupils to create an innovative and healthy lunch, and local karate teacher, Lionel Zeffert, talked about the importance of personal safety.
Portway Junior’s sports manager, Sarah Ibbotson said: “It’s been so good to have a wider view of healthy lifestyles this week.”
