Southampton Film Week starts this weekend
FILMED over five years in 25 countries on five continents on 70mm, Samsara transports us to the varied worlds of sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial complexes and natural wonders.
The visual and aural feast, main picture, is just one of dozens of films old, new, short and long on show at venues across the city as part of the sixth annual Southampton Film Week (SFW).
The feature screening, from Phoenix Film Society at the University of Southampton on Monday, is open to all, as are the Youth Film Festival, workshops and masterclasses, live music, artists’ moving image and competitions.
The programme of screenings includes great work from our local filmmaking talent alongside a rich selection of films from across the globe.
Enjoy music and film with the 1925 Phantom of the Opera and live score from the Guildhall’s Compton theatre organ on Tuesday and the Aurora Orchestra performing Britten’s soundtrack to the GPO films at Turner Sims on Thursday.
Also added to the line-up are the animation Chico and Rita at Tracie’s Latin Club – salsa and tango dancing are an optional extra – an Aardman masterclass from Producer Richard Beek and, of course, the traditional finale – the Alex Pub Film Quiz!
National Youth Film Festival workshops and City Eye Film School took place last week during half term, but a red carpet screening of films from these and previous Film Schools also takes place on the final day of SFW 13.
Southampton Film Week runs from tomorrow until November 10.
