Basingstoke Rock Choir perform at Wembley
5:00pm Monday 4th November 2013 in News
MEMBERS of a Basingstoke choir performed in front of thousands of people at a televised rugby match held in Wembley Stadium.
Basingstoke Rock Choir joined 5,000 other Rock Choir members from Fleet, Maidenhead, Windsor and Wokingham, where they sang in a circle around the pitch, to a record-breaking crowd of over 61,000 at the Heineken Cup battle between Saracens and Toulouse on October 18.
The Rock Choir members performed before kick-off and at half-time as part of the evening’s entertainment.
Leading up to the event, Glen Harvey, Basingstoke Rock Choir leader, prepared his members, teaching them songs including You’re the Voice, by John Farnham, and Proud by Heather Small, to ensure the harmonies were perfect before the big day.
Glen said: “We were thrilled to be part of this amazing mass performance. Being invited to exciting events like this is all part of being in Rock Choir.
“It’s only a couple of months since we sang with thousands of fellow Rock Choir members from around the country at the O2 Arena in London and the Echo Arena in Liverpool. It was great to get together with some of them again at Wembley Stadium.”
Basingstoke Rock Choir meets at Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College, in Wessex Way, on Thursday evenings. For more information, visit rockchoir.com.
