Three Whitchurch councillors stand down
11:00am Tuesday 5th November 2013 in News
MYSTERY surrounds the reason why three Whitchurch councillors have suddenly decided to resign their posts.
Linda Thomas, Jackie Day and Paul McGarvey all stepped down from their positions during October.
An election will be held to fill the vacancies.
Mrs Day, who is a former mayor, and Mr McGarvey both declined to comment when asked by The Gazette about why they had resigned, and Ms Thomas could not be contacted.
Councillor John Clark, the council’s chairman and the town mayor, paid tribute to the former councillors, and thanked them for their efforts.
Speaking of Mr McGarvey, he added: “Throughout his time, he has shown dedication to the residents of Whitchurch and has endeavoured to reflect this in his role.
“I appreciate that this was not an easy decision for Paul to have made, but an understandable one.”
An election will take place within 60 days.
