Rooksdown nursery criticised by Ofsted
A BASINGSTOKE day nursery has been issued with enforcement action after Ofsted graded it as “inadequate”.
Blossom Day Nursery, based at Rooksdown Community Centre, in Park Prewett Road, was visited by the education watchdog in July, and a report published this month criticised the nursery for failing to safeguard the children.
The inspection was brought forward as a result of a concern raised to Ofsted.
The Ofsted report said that the provider was found to be in breach of several legal requirements, and the requirements of the Childcare Register were also not met.
These included failing to adequately monitor some babies being rocked to sleep in their pushchairs while bottle feeding them, which is a choking risk; failing to remove large stinging nettles in the outdoor area used by babies for play; and not risk-assessing the location of pushchairs, which children use for sleeping, next to the fire exits.
The report said: “Staff are not vigilant in promoting children’s safety through effective use of risk assessments.”
