80ft oak tree crashes down in Lordshill area of Southampton
AN 80ft oak tree has crashed down, hitting a house and flattening a shed and vehicles.
John May and his wife Kay were awoken in the early hours of the morning to the sound of the huge tree collapsing into their garden and scraping their roof in Southampton.
The collapsed tree narrowly missed full impact with the property in Chelveston Crescent in Lordshill.
It flattened a shed, smashed a Vauxhall Corsa and Yamaha motorbike, and destroyed fences.
Mr May, 46, has described the scene as a “war zone” has he comprehends the huge clear up.
He said: “My wife heard it happen and jumped up. She said 'I've got to go outside' and said there was a tree on her car.
“A tree surgeon came out and said it would take a team of five men two days to clear it up. He said we were very lucky.
“If that had gone into the house we would have been dead.”
Tree surgeons from Southampton City Council are currently at the scene and a clear-up operation is underway.
