MOTORISTS on a busy Hampshire road face possible delays tonight as engineers carry out emergency work to fix a burst water main.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place in Main Road, Colden Common, from 7pm tonight as workers fix a repair leak.

The lights are in addition to a current set on the same stretch of road as Southern Water carries out its ongoing water mains replacement scheme.

The cause of the leak is currently unknown but Southern Water hopes the repairs will be completed by tomorrow morning.

A spokesman for Southern Water said: “We are working to repair a leak on a water main in Main Road, Colden Common.

“The repair will be made tonight after 7pm to avoid the rush hour traffic.

“Temporary traffic lights will be in place while the repair is carried out. These lights will be in addition to the current set, which are already in place for an ongoing water mains replacement scheme.

“If the emergency repair and reinstatement is not completed before the morning rush hour, manual stop-and go-boards will be used to manage the traffic.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and assure customers we will do all we can to repair the pipe quickly and keep disruption to a minimum.

“The burst is not expected to affect customers' water supplies.”
