A WINCHESTER cycling campaigner has called for a ‘bike hub’ in the city centre.
Heather Evans, who set up social enterprise Bespoke Biking last year, said it would promote two wheels instead of four.
“A place where people hire bikes, recycle bikes for the benefit of the community, a club where people can meet, from where rides can start and rides can finish,” she told the town forum.
Ms Evans organises cycle training for the young and old.
Steve Tilbury, corprorate director, said: “It is a really exciting idea for the kind of place we want to create.”
Ms Evans said the Bikeabout scheme, where people borrow bikes, appeared to be moribund.
Cllr Martin Tod said Bikeabout dated from 2002 and the city council needed to check what the current best practice was for cycle schemes.
